My Invisible and Visible Heroes

Last year I made a lot of changes. I went through a divorce. I got a new job. I moved. And I straightened my teeth. After all of the ups and downs, I can honestly say I’ve come out of this year a better person. One person who helped me get through this year was my dentist at My Tooth Spa in Fair Oaks.

Originally from the Sacramento area, my husband and I met in college at Sacramento State University. We had been married twenty years before we both decided it was time to go our separate ways. Even though the break up was mutual and didn’t involve a very messy divorce, it was still tough to make a life change like that. We lived in West Sacramento together and although I didn’t want to leave the Sacramento area because my family and friends are here, I thought it would be a good idea to move out of the neighborhood. I chose Fair Oaks because it is quiet and beautiful. Also, since we had the same dentist, I chose a new dentist that would be closer to my new home. I saw My Tooth Spa on my way home from work once and stopped in to make an appointment.

On my way into the office, I saw a sign outside advertising that My Tooth Spa offers Invisalign. It was only a few weeks after I had moved to Fair Oaks, but I still felt the need for positive change. At that moment, I couldn’t think of a better way for me to immediately feel better about myself and for it to be in a productive way. I had always wanted to straighten my teeth, but never wanted to spend the money on it. But now, more than ever, was the time to invest in myself and in my future.

So I talked to my dentist and she told me that Invisalign was a great option for me, as my teeth only needed minor adjusting. The great thing about Invisalign is that it is working invisibly and you can even take it out for special occasions and (god forbid) dates. I made an appointment for both my regular dental exam as well as an appointment to get fitted for my trays. Even after the first tray fitting, I was filled with optimism for my future—that I was going to be okay and that I would be moving forward. It’s funny how a little thing like getting your teeth done can change your outlook.

I am thankful for both my visible and invisible heroes (my My Tooth Spa dentist and Invisalign)—who helped me find the light at the end of the tunnel. A year later, I am feeling better than ever and have started dating again. I am happier knowing that I can and should make positive changes in my life that will lead to my being satisfied in my life.
